ABSTRACT

·AIM: To analyze the relationship between tear film break-up time (BUT) and systemic factors. ·METHODS: From January 2015 to July 2016 in the medical examination center of Fuzhou General Hospital or hospitalized, there were 747 cases included. All participants were observed for systolic and diastolic blood pressure, blood glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein,break-up time equivalent. The relationship between tear film rupture time and systemic factors was analyzed with simple and multiple linear regression analysis by SPSS19.0. ·RESULTS: Simple linear regression analysis results showed that the diastolic pressure and tear break-up time were positively correlated(P<0.05);age,systolic blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein was negatively correlated with BUT (P < 0. 05), but no correlation between triglyceride and tear film break up time (P = 0.227). Multiple linear regression analysis suggested that the tear film rupture time was positively correlated with diastolic blood pressure (P<0.001), but negatively correlated with systolic blood pressure (P<0.001), blood glucose (P<0. 001) and high-density lipoprotein (P=0.019). The time of tear film rupture was not related to age, cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein.·CONCLUSION: The correlation between blood glucose and tear film BUT is the most significant among all the indexes involved, indicating that ocular surface damage may occur in diabetic patients.

ABSTRACT

?Proliferative diabetic retinopathy ( PDR ) is a group of disease characterized by neovascular disease complication of diabetes mellitus. Neovascular diseases of eye are one of the major causes of blindness of the world. Recent studies showed that vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) and pigment epithelium-derived factor ( PEDF ) are now accepted as the key cytokine in the development of diabetic retinopathy. Recent progress in the investigation of VEGF and PEDF of PDR are summarized in this review.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine mercury contents in pair in cord blood, fetal hair, placenta and maternal scalp hair, and to analyze the correlation among them and the effect of mercury exposure risk factors in the mercury contents of samples. Methods Puerperants in the hospital, who lived in the local area without history of major diseases during the whole pregnancy, were investigated by questionnaire composed to several health factors.Cord blood, fetal hair, placenta and maternal scalp hair of these puerperal and their neonates (polyembryony and birth defects excluded) were collected to determine mercury content in pairs. Results The mean mercury contents of cord blood, fetal hair, placenta and maternal scalp hair in 303 samples were 1.65 μg/kg,234.58 μg/kg,3.85 μg/kg,497.62 μg/kg,respectively.Fifty percentile of them were 1.72 μg/kg,252.24 μg/kg,3.98 μg/kg,508.88 μg/kg,respectively.There were direct correlations between mercury in cord blood and that in fetal hair, mercury in cord blood and that in placenta, mercury in cord blood and that in maternal scalp hair, mercury in fetal hair and that in placenta, mercury in fetal hair and that in maternal scalp hair, mercury in maternal scalp hair and that in placenta(all P < 0.05).The mercury contents in cord blood, fetal hair and maternal scalp hair of those living nearby factories involved in mercury, higher intake fish during the pregnancy, firing coal and consumption of whiting cosmetics and smoking were determined as (2.24 ± 0.20) μg/kg,(315.65 ± 35.31) μg/kg and (663.53 ± 71.83) μg/kg.The mercury in those without the high risk factors mentioned above were(1.62 ± 0.16) μg/kg,(245.79 ± 28.21) μg/kg and (499.39 ± 47.72) μg/kg.There was a significant difference between 2 groups(all P < 0.01).Conclusions In addition to control industrial pollution, pregnant women should avoid the above-mentioned high risk factors and pay more attention to health care during pregnancy. The mercury content in cord blood is highly correlated with the mercury in fetal hair, and that in placenta and in maternal scalp hair. The 2 kinds of detection both can achieve the purpose of monitoring mercury intrauterine exposure conditions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the current situation of iodine deficiency diserders(IDD) in Longyan City and to evaluate the effect of prevention and control measures of IDD in order to provide evidence for formulating prevention and control tactics. Methods During the year of 2006 and 2007, the 30 primary schools were screened by population proportion survey(PPS) from the 7 counties of Longyan City. Forty children aged 8-10 years in each school were randomly selected as a group to examine thyroid, and 7 children in each group were selected to measure the urine iodine and the salt iodine at the same time. The goiter rote, the median urinary iodine, the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt, the iodine salt coverage rate, the rate of qualified iodized salt and the non-iodized rate were detected. Results The goiter rate of children aged 8-10 years old in Longyan City was 0.94%(79/8438). The median urinary iodine was 259.12 μg/L. The consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 97.86% (1462/1494). The iodine salt coverage rate was 99.46%(1486/1494). The rate of qualified iodized salt was 98.38 (1462/1486), and the non-iodized rate was 0.54% (8/1494). Conclusions All indicators have reached the national standard of eliminating IDD in Longyan City.
